Archie’s Wok
This is the first in a series of reviews provided by one of our Mayan owners, Paul Gousset. (pronounce goo- say). We haven’t tested these, but they seem to make sense, so we will publish all of his reviews over the next few months.
Asian cuisine. Located near the beach in the south edge of Centro, near old town. They are closed Sunday and do not take reservations. Known for their barbecued pork ribs and light battered calamari. Live music after 7:00 PM (Harpist), it is a lot more than just a Chinese restaurant. Go early and stroll to the beach to bargain with the vendors and have a Margarita. Reservations only for eight or more.
$$$- under $40 with one drink
Ambiance B- Food B+
09 – update – After several more trips, Archie’s still rocks !

Blue Shrimp Restaurant-Puerto Vallarta
If you don’t like shrimp, this is definitely not your place. they specialize in ….. shrimp !! you can get 3 different sizes of shrimp prepared in a variety of creative ways. The largest version is , you guessed it, the blue shrimp. The blue shrimp is only available in season. I should also note that as the size increases, you get fewer number of shrimp and a higher price. We settled on the “medium” sized shrimp as the most cost effective. They were huge and delicious.
Cilantro’s Restaurant – Puerto Vallarta
An upscale Mexican restaurant with the usual dishes, very nicely done. The chicken enchilada’s had the best mole sauce we found in the Puerto Vallarta area. I mentioned this in a forum a couple of years ago and a reader commented they had terrible service and poor food at Cilantro’s. I would appreciate anyone else’s comment. You can find it At 169 Calle Abasolo in Central Vallarta, just a block from the Malecon.
