What do you think when you hear of a Tequila Tasting in Puerto Vallarta.  For many, it brings back bad memories from early experiences with cheap tequila.  Wipe those days of  bad tequila and hangovers from your mind.

Jo Jack’s – Home of the Agave Room.

And if you have progressed, but you still think tequila is just for margaritas and shots with salt and lime, it’s time to elevate your game. Welcome to The Agave Room at Jo Jack’s Fish Shack in Old Town Puerto Vallarta—where Mexico’s finest spirits get the respect they deserve. This is not your average tasting; it’s an experience, a deep dive into the world of tequila, mezcal, raicilla, and other agave-based spirits. But you don’t have to be an expert to enjoy it.

The Setting: Intimate and Authentic

save the 2 for 1 mojitos for another day

Tucked inside Jo Jack’s, our favorite Puerto Vallarta restaurant, The Agave Room is an intimate space designed for serious (but fun) exploration of Mexico’s iconic spirits.    We first discovered Jo Jack’s for the 2 for 1 mojitos and their excellent food.  We were super happy to discover their latest addition.  The warm, rustic ambiance sets the stage, and the knowledgeable staff ensures you’re in for a treat. This isn’t about getting tipsy—though that might happen—it’s about discovering the craftsmanship, history, and flavors of agave spirits.

Vidanta Tequila Tasting

If you are one of our guests, it is true that Vidanta offers a decent tequila tasting experience that introduces you to the different styles of blanco, reposado and anejo.  It is definitely worth doing.   But if you are ready to up your tequila game and to  branch out to other agave spirits,  read on!

The Tasting: More Than Just Tequila

When you sit down for a tasting, prepare to be surprised. Yes, there’s tequila, but you’ll also get to sip on smoky mezcal, Puerto Vallarta’s own raicilla, and even lesser-known agave spirits that might just become your new favorites. Each spirit is thoughtfully paired with small bites that enhance the flavors and keep your palate engaged.  For the reasonable rate they charge, we were surprised at the excellent small bites that came along with each taste.  The master of the tasting was super friendly and clearly loved his task of educating and entertaining us.

Not sure how to tell the difference between mezcal and tequila? Wondering why raicilla has been called “Mexico’s moonshine” (in the best way possible)? The maestro at  The Agave Room will break it all down, giving you tasting notes, production insights, and plenty of fun facts to impress your friends back home.
