Frequently Asked Questions

Rental Details

How do we know you're legitimate?

Mayan Rental has an established track record. Over the past 20 years, we have helped literally thousands of guests book vacations in Mexico's Vidanta Resorts. Check out our testimonials page Some people have left email addresses so you can email them and ask about their experiences at the Mayan Palace, Grand Mayan, Grand Bliss, Grand Luxxe, Spa Tower, Loft, or Luxxe Residence.

Can I add guests to my reservation after booking?

No problem. Just email us with their names as they appear on their passport.

Can I rent from you if I already own a Vidanta timeshare?

Absolutely. Members often rent from us to get units or dates they don’t have access to. They also commonly rent extra units for friends or family.

Can I rent for less than a week?

In general, rentals are for one week beginning only on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday or Monday.

Our rates are so low, it usually costs less to rent a week from us unless you need 3 nights or less.

During low season we can sometimes get 1 to 3 extra nights for you. The extra nights are a bit more "per night" but not outrageous.

Are there additional house cleaning fees or resort fees?

In a word, NO. Many vacation rentals charge extra for maid service and/or add a mysterious “resort fee” As a guest of an owner, you will have any of those charges. You will only pay the room tax levied by the Mexican government. This is the same tax charged by all hotels in Mexico.

What is the Rental Process?

We have developed a rental process that keeps other renters and timeshare owners happy. You do not pay for the unit until:

#1 we book it and give you confirmation

AND

#2 you can Confirm with Vidanta Central reservation to confirm that it is booked in your name for the correct date and resort.

Can I book multiple rooms for a group or family reunion?

Absolutely. We have relationship with dozens of owners. We have rented as many as 13 units to one group. And it could be more. Just contact as far in advance as possible.

What if we have to cancel?

You can cancel for a full refund minus a cancellation fee (see below) IF you cancel before the cancellation deadline.

Deadline for check in January 1 to November 15: 35 days before check in,.

Deadline for check in November 15 to December 31 is October 1

Cancellation fee is $100 for studio units and $200 for all other units.

How far in advance should I book a Vidanta vacation?

It’s always worth checking if we have something available, even last minute. We reserve quite a few units for just such an occasion.

But to have the best chance, timing depends which season and which level of luxury. Here are some guidelines,

High Season: mid December through mid April

Mayan Palace, Grand Mayan, and Grand Bliss - 7 months before check in.

Luxxe and Above: 13 months before check in to get exactly what you want.

Low season: Mid April through Mid December

Mayan Palace, Grand Mayan, and Grand Bliss - 3 months before check in.

Luxxe and Above: 6 months before check in

Why are MayanRental’s rates so low? (what’s the catch)

Better Price

Our rates are low because we connect you with timeshare owners who aren’t using all their weeks. The rental covers the maintenance fee and puts a little cash in their pocket. We have been doing this for twenty years, so we are much more aware of reasonable prices than many people trying to rent their own weeks.

Better Perks

Not only do you get better rates, but you get more perks that only time share members and their guests can enjoy. That includes free access to the waterpark in Grand Mayan Acapulco, free access to the top of the line exercise facilities at all resorts. Some of our units come with free golf or massages. Be sure to ask.

The catch is the extra steps of having us check availability and pay before you go. We have Instantly Available Units that we have already paid for and pre-reserved for you. But, if those dates don't work you will need to fill out an Inquiry Form We try to get back to you quickly.

And you will also have to pay before you go, rather than at the resort

How do I pay for things at the resort?

Virtually everything including groceries can be purchased with your signature and your room number. It will appear on your bill at check out.

Are there any hidden fees at Vidanta resorts?

That is an interesting question. The short answer is No. There are no resort fees or cleaning fees since you will be the guest of a member. However it is not an all inclusive. Spa services, equipment rental, Cirque du Soleil, Vidantaworld, and Jungala water park all have extra cost. Finally all accommodations in Mexico have a modest room tax that is paid at check out.

What is the resort tax and how is it paid?

Tricky terminology question. There is no resort fee when you rent from us, however there is a room tax charged by any and all accommodations in Mexico that you pay when you check out. If this is not clear, please call us for clarification. We are totally transparent with our guests.

Do We Have to Attend a Sales Presentation?

Absolutely, positively NOT !! You are going as the guest of an owner. They will offer you a tour of the resort (read sales presentation) and usually resort discounts. If that is worth it to you, feel free. But also, feel free to say no. We will admit, the sales pitch is really quite enthusiastic.

It is Confusing !!

First of all the Riviera Maya and the Nuevo Vallarta locations have all the options llisted in the question. You can see resort maps linked below showing the locations of the each unit type. Other locations have only one or two of the options

💧⚡ What should I know about water and electricity at Vidanta?

Great news — you do not need to pack an outlet adapter. Mexico uses the same voltage and plug type as the U.S. and Canada, so all your chargers and devices will work just fine.

As for water: Although it is treated and safe, due to taste we don’t recommend drinking from the tap. On resort you can consume ice, drinks, and food with absolutely no worry. For water in your room, the most cost effective method is to buy one or two gallon bottles at the store on site. Bottles are provided in the room, but you will pay for the convenience. For off resort, water and ice restaurants are safe in tourist areas. Check out full blog post on water safety in Mexico.

Do you need an adapter at the Vidanta Resorts?

No, you do not! (unless you are not coming from North America)

Accessibility FAQ for Guests with Disabilities at Vidanta Resorts

Are Vidanta resorts accessible for guests with disabilities?

Yes! Vidanta takes accessibility seriously and works to ensure that guests of all abilities can enjoy their vacation. Many areas across the resorts—especially in the Grand Mayan, Grand Bliss, and Grand Luxxe levels—are designed with wide walkways, ramps, elevators, and wheelchair-accessible facilities.

Do the resort shuttles accommodate wheelchairs or mobility scooters?

Yes, some of the resort shuttles (especially in Nuevo Vallarta and Riviera Maya) are accessible for standard-size wheelchairs. However, not all vehicles are equipped for this, so it’s best to request assistance in advance through your concierge or front desk. You may need to wait a bit longer for an accessible shuttle, but they will get you where you need to go.

Can I rent a wheelchair or mobility scooter at the resort?

Wheelchairs are often available on request through the concierge or guest services at Vidanta. If you need a mobility scooter or more specialized equipment, we recommend arranging it in advance through a third-party provider in the local area.

Are the rooms wheelchair accessible?

Some rooms—particularly in the Grand Mayan, Grand Bliss, and Grand Luxxe categories—are designated as accessible units with features like wider doorways, grab bars, roll-in showers, and lower counters. However, not all rooms have these features, so it's essential to request an accessible unit at the time of booking.

What about restaurants, pools, and beach access?

Most restaurants are on ground level or accessible via elevator. Some pools have sloped entries or pool lifts, though not all do. Beach access can be challenging in some areas due to sand and elevation, but beach wheelchairs may be available upon request in Nuevo Vallarta and Riviera Maya. Again, we recommend asking ahead so arrangements can be made.

Are the entertainment and shows accessible?

Yes. Most theaters and venues for live shows offer accessible seating and entry. If you plan to attend a specific event or dinner show, just let staff know in advance so they can reserve accessible seating for you.

Is there staff available to assist guests with mobility issues?

While Vidanta staff are friendly and happy to assist where they can, it's not a formalized caregiver service. If you or a travel companion needs ongoing physical assistance, it’s wise to travel with a helper or arrange for a local care service.

Do you have any tips for guests with disabilities visiting Vidanta?

Absolutely!

  • Book early and request an accessible room at the time of reservation.
  • Let the concierge know about any mobility needs before or upon arrival.
  • Plan extra time for getting around—Vidanta resorts are large and sprawling.
  • Ask about rental options for wheelchairs or scooters ahead of time.
  • Bring a small portable ramp or threshold aid if you use a scooter or power chair, just in case.

All the resorts have a phenomenal breakfast buffet. In addition to a large variety of different international offerings, there are casual restaurants around the pool area

Is there a grocery store nearby or on-site?

There is an excellent small grocery on site, complete with bakery, meats, cheeses etc. If you want to cook more extensively there you can take a taxi or drive to several close by groceries in Bucerias (Nuevo Vallarta) or Playa del Carmen (Riviera Maya). We have a complete blog post on Grocery Shopping in Mexico.

Well… not exactly. The beautiful Caribbean white sand beach at Riviera Maya is great for beach walking and you can swim if you walk 10 minutes or so to the North (towards Cancun). If it’s snorkelling your are interested in, you can book a snorkel trip going out from Puerto Morelos, less than five miles away.
